Itinerary
Arrival in Rwanda
Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be met by your personal guide. He will accompany you on your onward journey to the Akagera National Park in the east of the country. Covering an area of 2500 km², a labyrinth of swamps, lakes, and green meadows provides the perfect habitat for zebras, antelopes, giraffes and elephants.
In the afternoon, you will immediately go into the middle of this beautiful natural landscape. On a boat ride, with a little luck, you may spot a few hippos lifting their heads out of the water.
Akagera National Park
Go on a safari for the next two days through the southern and northern areas of the national park. During game drives with experienced naturalist guides, you can observe the wild animals of the national park. The best times for this are the morning and late afternoon when the animals are most active. Also, enjoy the comfort of your camp and look forward to exquisite food and fantastic service.
The capital Kigali
After breakfast you will drive back to the capital Kigali. Here you will have the chance to learn more about the history of Rwanda during a guided city tour. Learn how the country deals with its difficult past, while still looking confidently to the future.
Departure to Nyungwe National Park
This morning you will continue south to Nyungwe National Park. Here you will have the next few days to participate in some of the numerous activities.
But you should not miss the chimpanzee trekking. Already at five o'clock in the morning, you go together with trained rangers on the search for the monkeys to find them before they have left their nest. An exciting experience where you can get very close to the playful chimpanzees with a little luck.
Lake Kivu
After a last hearty breakfast in the middle of the rainforest, you will continue your journey towards the north of the country. You will drive along the picturesque scenery of Lake Kivu and make one or two stops to enjoy the view all the way to the D.R. Congo. Take a kayak ride or treat yourself to a cool down in the lake before watching a gorgeous sunset.
Accommodation: Cleo Lake Kivu Hotel
Drive to Volcanoes National Park
Today you will travel further into the north of the country. After a drive through green hills, past tea and banana plantations, you will reach Musanze. This town is the optimal starting point for gorilla trekking in the surrounding mountains.
A visit to the mountain gorillas
After breakfast, today's adventure begins. Visit with an experienced ranger, one of the 10 habituated gorilla families living in the Volcanoes National Park. In small groups, you can get up close to these beautiful animals and observe them in their natural habitat. High up in the mountains, the gorillas live in communities of up to 30 animals.
On your last day in this breathtaking setting, you can go in search of golden monkeys or hike to the grave of Dian Fossey.
Homeward journey
Today it is time to say goodbye to the streets of Kigali, the high mountains of the Volcanoes National Park and the dense jungle of Nyungwe. The many memories and impressions you have gathered in Rwanda will certainly remain in your memory for a long time.
