Rwanda Trip - Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda
Itinerary
Arrival in Kigali
You will land at the airport in Kigali and will be warmly welcomed by your guide in Rwanda. Get to know the capital better during a sightseeing tour and let your guide show you the lesser-known places. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a memorial that educates about the cruel genocide in 1994.
Drive to the Volcanoes National Park
Enjoy a final breakfast in Kigali before departing today for Volcanoes National Park. You will drive together with your guide to the north of the country. Enjoy the drive past tea plantations and small villages and fully immerse yourself in the small country of Rwanda.
Gorilla Trekking
Today an absolute highlight is on the day's program - a visit to the mountain gorillas in the bamboo forest of the Volcanoes National Park. In a small group and led by a guide, you will make your way through the deep green branches of the African jungle. Depending on where the gorillas are, the way there can take up to 5 hours. The encounter that awaits you then, however, will make you forget every minute of the way. The gentle giants always live together in a group of several. With a bit of luck, you will also have offspring with you. After an hour with the gorillas, you will return to the camp. One thing is for sure, you will never forget this experience.
On the trail of Dian Fossey
Today you will follow in the footsteps of Dian Fossey, the world famous gorilla researcher. You will hike in about 3-4 hours up to her former research station Karisoke, which is located at about 3000m altitude between the volcanic mountains Visoke and Karisimbi. All that is left of the station today is a cemetery with some gravesites of her beloved gorillas as well as the grave of Dian Fossey herself. During a hike through beautiful landscapes you will learn a lot about the mountain gorillas as well as the work of Dian Fossey and you will get a special insight into the nature conservation, which serves the preservation of the mountain gorillas.
Homeward journey
After a last breakfast with fantastic views of the volcanic landscape of Rwanda, it is now time to say goodbye to this special country. You will be driven back to Kigali and start your journey home or extend your Africa trip with, for example, a beach stay or a safari in Tanzania.
