Worth knowing about Uganda
Exciting information about your trip to Uganda
General information
With a total area of around 240,000 square kilometers, Uganda is about the size of Great Britain. The density of natural sites worthy of protection is astonishing: Nine national parks and six game reserves reflect the biodiversity. With Entebbe and Kampala, the former and new capital cities are located on Lake Victoria in central southern Uganda. Most national parks are located along the country's borders in the west, south and northeast. It is easy to understand why Winston Churchill once called Uganda the pearl of Africa. Numerous large lakes can be found here as well as typical African bush savannah and misty rainforests. Particularly impressive are the five-thousand-meter peaks of the Ruwenzori Mountains, some of which are glaciated, and the Virunga volcanoes near the border.
Climate and best time to travel
The best time to travel is during the dry periods between December and February and July and October. At this time of year it is worth visiting the large national parks. Classic game drives in open jeeps are then possible as well as numerous wildlife sightings. If you want to visit the rainforest region in western Uganda, you can also use the rainy season. This way you will not only benefit from significantly cooler temperatures, but also from reduced prices for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking tours. Due to Uganda's high altitude, temperatures are neither particularly high nor particularly low. Average daytime highs vary between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. At night, temperatures reach around 17 degrees Celsius. The region around Lake Victoria is considered particularly rainy. The thunderstorm clusters formed over the lake usually rain directly on site.

These are the most exciting national parks in Uganda:
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park
Considered the pinnacle of Uganda's safari highlights, the Gorilla trekking in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The dense rainforest on Uganda's western border is home to half of the world's mountain gorilla population. In small groups with a maximum of eight participants, you will get closer to the majestic giants of the jungle than anywhere else. In the early morning hours, the great adventure begins. After a thematic introduction, you will approach the area - depending on the location of your lodge - first in an off-road vehicle. A hike through the rainforest thicket will take you ever closer to the habitat of the mountain gorillas. Once on-site, spend about an hour with the human-like primate species organized into families. Study the behaviour of these fascinating apes and receive fascinating information and tips from your expert guide. Various stream courses swamp areas crisscross the almost impenetrable rainforest, which beckons with unforgettable nature experiences all year round.
